This kuzlambu is called vathal kuzlambu if manathakkali (black nightshade) or sundakkai (Turkey berry) vathal or any vathal is used to prepare this kuzlambu. Drumsticks along with baby/pearl onions. You can do this with baby onions alone if you prefer. It is also called Puli kuzlambu. Generous amount of sesame seed /gingelly oil is used to prepare this recipe.
Ingredients needed
Baby onions (pearl onions) - 1 cup
Drumsticks -3 (10-15 pieces)
Gingelly oil - 3 tbsp
Sambar powder - 1 1/2 - 2 tbsp
Tamarind - 1 medium lemon sized ball
Salt - As per taste.
For the seasoning
Mustard - 1/2 tsp Fenugreek- 1/2 tsp Asafoedita - a pinch Red chillies - 2 Curry leaves - little
Method
Heat oil and add the ingredients for seasoning.
Then add baby onions and drumstick pieces and saute well.
Add sambar powder, salt and tamarind extract. (around 3 1/2 cups)
Boil well until it becomes a little thick.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
You can add any one of the following vegetables along with baby onions like cluster beans, yellow pumpkin, drumsticks, ladiesfinger, brinjal, cauliflower and broad beans.
