| The Serial Killer Saroja was in a hurry to finish her chores. She was almost done with her cooking. Her two year old son was playing in the hall. She kept an eye on him from the kitchen itself.
The phone rang. She picked up the phone. It was her husband. "Saru, I am leaving from office now. It will take at least another half an hour for me to reach home. Be careful and keep all the doors and windows closed." "Ok." Saroja said and kept the phone.
There was a robbery in their locality just one week before. The robbery had happened in broad day light. All families in the locality were extra careful now.
Saroja checked again if the door is locked. She then sat down to watch Television. Her son was still playing.
"Trrring Trrring". The door bell rang. Saroja was worried. Her husband had called just few minutes back and it would not be him. She peeped through the window. There was a man standing holding something in his hand. She had not seen him before.
"Who is it?" She shouted without opening the door. "Newspaper bill madam."
Saroja knew that he was not the usual person who came to collect the bill. She was too scared to open the door. "Come tomorrow morning." She told him from behind the doors. "OK" the stranger said and left the place.
Saroja peeped again from the window and made sure that he had left.
She looked at her son who was not at all bothered about what is happening around him. He now had a book with him and was scribbling something with his pencil.
Saroja looked at the clock it was 8:30 pm. Her favourite program was about to start. She changed the channel and was completely lost in Television.
The phone rang again. She was startled by the ringing noise. She picked up the phone. "Hello" There was no response from the other side. "Hello...." She said again. But there was no response at all. She thought it must be wrong number and kept the phone.
She continued watching her favourite show.
"Trring Trring..." There was a sound again. It was the door bell this time. "Saru.. It's me." Her husband said.
Saroja opened the door. "Saru, Sorry dear, I got late in office." "I will get some water for you."
He picked up his son and sat down to play with him. He changed the channel to watch News. "Saru, Hope you didn't get scared." He asked her taking the glass of water.
Saroja nodded her head. Her face had expression of sadness rather than expression of fear.
"Hmmm... The Serial Killer arrived on time." She thought to herself. | |
