10 Fabulous Uses of Vinegar and Baking Soda

Do you spend a fortune in buying the most expensive cleaning products off the market shelf to keep your house clean?  Though some work, most of them may not up to your satisfaction.  Do you wonder if you can get away from the chemical products and go green?  Think vinegar and baking soda!

This powerful combination deserves a top place in your household cabinet for its varied cleaning purposes. Read on to learn some fabulous uses of this awesome combination.  They are nontoxic and affordable. Buy them in bulk and you will not repent your decision.

Salt Water Scales:
Remove stubborn hard water scales from your bathroom tiles with a paste of vinegar and baking soda. Mix half cup of vinegar and a quarter cup of baking soda and use a pad to scrub the scaly area. Let it stay for five to ten minutes before you rinse it with clear water.

Clog-Free Drain:
A clogged drain is one of the most common plumbing problems. For a moderately clogged drain, pour a mix of hot water, a cup of vinegar and baking soda into the drain. Leave it for ten to fifteen minutes, which will dissolve the grime and dirt in the drain. After some time, pour some more hot water into the drain, which clears the remains of the drain.

Find out if the kitchen drain is made of plastic of metal tube before you wash it away with hot water. Plastic tubes have chances of melting in high water temperature.

Super Charge Your Laundry:
Vinegar and baking soda along with the detergent powder will leave the clothes fresh and clean, thereby avoiding the use of fabric softeners. Vinegar removes stains and odor while baking soda is also a general stain remover. 1/2 cup works well for top loading washers and 1/4th cup for front loading. Put the mixture in the fabric softener dispenser of the washing machine.

You may also want to apply a paste of vinegar and baking soda on stubborn dirt areas such as perspiration, collar and cuff rings and let it stay for an hour before putting them in the washing machine.

Cooking Mess:
Make use of vinegar and baking soda to remove the cooking stains from your stove by sprinkling baking soda and spraying vinegar on the messy area. The combination loosens the grime making the cleaning process easier. Let it sit for few minutes before you can scrub it off for a visibly sparkling stovetop.

Tarnished Jewelry:
Remove the tarnish on silver jewelry by applying quarter cup of baking soda with two tablespoons of plain water.  Scrub the blemished area with a soft cloth, rinse and dry. Make use of baking soda and a bit of vinegar to clean gold jewelry and rinse clean. Never use this technique on jewelry that contains precious gems or stones as the chemical reaction can damage the finish.

More Cleaning Tips…

Pest-Free House:
Add a quarter cup of vinegar in a gallon of water when you mop the floor to keep the pests such as flies and ants away. This is an effective and green way of controlling the pest than using toxic pesticides.

Spotty Mirrors and Glass Windows:

[Stained Floors:
Hard stains on the ceramic floor tiles can mar the beautiful looks of the floor. Remove the stains with a paste of baking soda with warm water. Apply the paste with a scrubber and let it stay for five to ten minutes before you mop it clean with warm water.

Make a solution of a quarter cup of vinegar with two cups of water to get rid of those ugly coffee or tea stains from the inner of a cup or a kettle. Now pour the mixture into the cup and let it stay for few minutes before you rinse it clean with water.

Cooking Odor:
Remove the cooking odor, stains and grease from the microwave with a solution made of 3/4th cup of baking soda, 1/4th cup of water and 1/4th cup of salt. Boil the solution for few minutes.
