Newborn becomes world's youngest to have heart surgery

Jasmine Carr has become the youngest person in the world to undergo open heart surgery after doctors operated 17 and a half hours after she was born.

The newborn was given just a 15 per cent chance of survival after she was diagnosed with a condition that meant one side of her heart failed to fully develop.
But the baby girl has now left intensive care and could be home with her parents Jo and James Carr by April after the operation to repair her heart was a success, according to the Daily Mirror.
The couple were told they could terminate the pregnancy, proceed and watch her die in their arms, or try immediate surgery after the defect emerged after her 20-week scan.
Mrs Carr, 27, said: "It was a no-brainer – we had to go for the operation.
“Being told there is little chance of your daughter living is the most heartbreaking thing you can hear as a mother.
